WENDY BATES

Wendy says it is difficult to remember a time when she did not sew. Her grandfather was a tailor and great
aunt taught her to knit and embroider, encouraging a love of fabric and thread. A degree course at art
school introduced her to basketry, ceramics and printmaking, skills which lay dormant for many years while
at home with young children. With no specific style she stitches by hand and machine often using her
photographs as inspiration. Literature, folklore, wildlife and images from travel feature in her stitched
pieces..
